浪-LANG is firstly a translingual concrete poem by Jill Zheng. The work is a play of and with language, detouring from meaning but looking at the visual and sonic linkage between Chinese and English.
The poem was then brought to Shanghai Composer Collective (SHCC), and expanded into a sound-art composition with a 空曲 Kongqu spin. The performance embraces the sounds of human vocal reading, electronics living translating the writing of the character 浪, synthesizer played by Chad Higgenbottom and strings played by Lucas Lee, which builds the ambience with the spectralised timbre of Jill's pronouncing 'làng'
浪-LANG explores sound as frequencies, as 'wave 浪’ itself.
